Dear god. Why do they print this shite?

Quote:

Madam

While a convicted rapist goes free, I feel I should be locked up. My crime? Contempt of court.

I plead guilty of the utmost contempt for a court that can pass such a sentence.

Yours, etc,

I think the door may have been shut one of the last times BDG got banned, but she has so many alter egos (Taxi being the current one) it seems a bit pointless.

Sparks - here's a rule of thumb I've always found to hold (sticking with the more well known substances)

the addition of drink or chemicals to someones system will invariably heighten the mood they're in at the time

you're in great form -

drink can add to a good night by reducing some inhibitions and relaxing you

dope can make you chill out and smile a lot - everyone is your friend and there are no problems you can't solve

e can increase the happy buzz you're on and make you feel 'loved up'

coke is for muppets - 'nuff said

you're in shite form - drink can make you maudlin and, by reducing those same inhibitions, make you very anti-social

dope can still chill you out but make you more introspective and not so cheery

e can add a bit too much of an edge to your buzz

coke is still for muppets - just now they think they're the hulk

all in all the drug in use is less of an issue compared to the individual using it

Cheers wake.
Believe it or not, it's not an area I ever learnt much about personally.

So the Swearing Lady's point stands - any use of the abuse of substances to excuse behaviour is fucked up, and to have a supposedly qualified, intelligent judge making those excuses (if that's what he was doing, and what other basis was there to suspend the sentence for a violent attack?) is WELL out of order.

I've said it so many times here and elsewhere - if you don't know, ASK, don't assume.

I don't think the judge mentioned E in his sentencing:

Quote:

Mr Justice Carney said on Monday that his decision to impose a suspended sentence was based on a previous ruling by the Court of Criminal Appeal in relation to a sentence imposed by him in a previous similar case by the Director of Public Prosecutions. Mr Carney said that appeal had been lost and the sentencing set aside.

edit: (and it fairness to the SL she didn't say he did either)

Okay, so the SL's point still stands. IF that was why he gave a suspended sentence, then he was out of order. I'm not saying his actual excuse was any better, mind you.

It would have been a lot funnier if he'd claimed that his staff issued the sentence and he never sees what's sent out in his name. A LOT funnier. Not for Mary Shannon though.

Clare rapist jailed for breach of terms

Friday, 11 May 2007 16:33
A 20-year-old man who received a controversial suspended sentence after being convicted of rape has been sent to prison for breaching the terms under which his sentence was suspended.
Adam Keane of Barnageeha, Daragh, Co Clare was given a three-year suspended sentence for the rape of mother of three, Mary Shannon in May 2005.
The sentence imposed by Mr Justice Paul Carney caused controversy and Ms Shannon waived her right to anonymity to speak out about it. She said she was devastated by what she described as the absolutely disgraceful decision to impose a suspended sentence.

Ms Shannon said she had to travel back to Clare on the same train as her attacker and she claimed he flicked a cigarette butt towards her as she passed him in the car park of the train station in Ennis.
Mr Justice Carney said he accepted the evidence of Ms Shannon and her family that Mr Keane flicked a cigarette at or in her direction, in a triumphal gesture. He said he was lifting the suspension of the sentence.

ha, ha.

Hmmm, scumbag is let off the hook and acts like a scumbag. My, there's a shock. Hopefully that gem of our judiciary, mister justice Carney, will be a bit slower to let convicted rapists off the hook next time.
